Starting to be a grown up

Posted in Uncategorized on June 29, 2008 by jennyb

I am starting to see the beginnings of a grown up house!  Oh we have gotten rid of dorm furniture quite a while ago but figuring out our style and not wanting to just throw something on the walls to cover a space has made for a bare house for a few years. (a lot of years)  Our process tends to entail coming up with an idea for a piece of furniture or a wall hanging and then spending a year looking for it!!  Well as luck would have it we stumbled on an estate sale with 15 minutes to spare and completely on a whim stopped to look around.  The house was old and was surrounded by lush plantings.  Upon entering the house you could tell that it was stuck in a time other than now…..a great time…..a time period in which we are trying to decorate our house….the 60’s!  Our eyes were darting around faster than our brains could process but we immediately saw a buffet with a hutch on top that we knew right away needed to be ours!!!  There was a table and 6 chairs next to it and the whole bit was made out of teak.  We eventually came home with all of it and it looks fantastic in our home.  So after a period of shifting furniture around the house is starting to look like we have a style and our act together!!  No more milk crates and soloflex posters!!!  ahhh I love it!!

Something to look forward to

So, the week off in July is so close that I can taste it, however, there have been changes.  Our week off has turned into a 4 day weekend so that we can plan a week in California in September!  As much as I would love to have a week by the pool, this LA trip should be fun!  The trip will ultimately end in a Broadway preview show of Dolly Parton’s 9 to 5!

Music is a HUGE part of my life.  In my home growing up, we always had some kind of music playing.  I thank my parents for that, and for the diversity of music that was played.  We might be dancing around to Sam Cook and then put on Willie Nelson, and later in the day put on a Best Of classical album that would start my brother and myself to act out scenes in cartoons, namely Bugs Bunny, that used classical music in chase scenes and the like.  So, needless to say, I still have a very diverse palate in my musical taste.  I will share some of my recent samplings that I am obsessed with. (oh, did I mention that I can be a little obsessive with things….listening to a certain song, what I eat for lunch….yikes I am a piece of work!)

Give these a chance!

The first selection is from the musical Taboo.  The story is partially about Boy George and the music was written by Boy George.  This video is not very good, however it shows the amazing talent of Euan Morton.  He played Boy on stage.  This is from an appearance on the Today Show.

Wow am I irritated that I can’t get this player embedded into my post!!  Am I an idiot?  They talk about how easy it is to put it right in there and oh boy will you have hours of fun listening to all those cool songs you love right there on a neat old timey cassette tape!  Bah! You lie!  You can’t do it!!!  So, just click the link and imagine that it was looking at you right below this post!

Wow, I recently made the very scary plunge into the Mac World from PC Land!  I have 11 plus PC’s and am fairly savvy in PC land, however the Mac is definitely different.  I know all you Mac-ees around the globe will say that it is much easier to use than a PC and that may be true, but the switch is a little different when the names are all changed.  I found a book called Switching to the Mac by David Pogue  that does exactly what I need.  He tells you what the process, button, or application is on the PC and then tells you what it will be on the Mac…genius!!!

So now back to the MacBook Pro.  Eeeeee!  Wow is it gorgeous!!!  I also got a book from the Apple Pro Training Series for the Final Cut Express 4software which is an amazing training tool.  The book comes with a cd to download clips that they will guide you through editing as you read along in the book.  This is a very effective way to learn the software!!

I am loving my Mac like everyone said I would! (props to Bren)  Ipod, Iphone, and now MacBook Pro! ahhhh!

MacBook Pro is a computer with JAZZ HANDS!!

What’s the hold up?

Ok, so I have uncovered my blogging stage fright. (see previous post)  I am worried about whether my posts will be interesting, engaging, thought provoking……. you get the idea.  I happen to be an educated individual, and you think that this realization would have been evident early on, however it took me some time to process and realize that I HAVE NO READERS OF MY BLOG!!!  So, Miss “I Can’t Perform In Front Of All Of Those People!”….YOU HAVE NO PEOPLE!!!!  (long pause) i don’t? (sniff, sniff)

Wow, so it seems that I can talk about anything I want whether it is interesting or not!  So to those of you that somehow through sheer misfortune stumble across this blog, don’t worry with the content, just admire the picture in my header…I took it in my back yard and if I do say so myself, it is a cool picture!

From now on I will be carefree in my blogging!!!
